A smart energy concept is already making tomorrowâs logistics a reality today
Schwarz Transporte, a family-run business from Upper Austria with a long tradition, is playing a pioneering role in modern, low-emission logistics. The fleet already includes four Mercedes eActros 600s, which have covered over 500,000 kilometres. Three further electric lorries will be added in the first quarter of 2027. In addition, around 15 electric cars have been available to staff since 2018.
At the Linz site, the currently available grid connection capacity of just 120 kW poses a major challenge for the required charging infrastructure. A specialised energy management system has therefore been developed: this takes 18 variables into account and optimises the charging strategy based on electricity market prices, forecast photovoltaic output and the actual usage of the electric lorries.
To create a modern electric mobility solution, there was close collaboration with da emobil and strong partners. The fact that the fast-charging infrastructure had to be adapted whilst logistics operations were ongoing and within a tight timeframe made this project particularly exciting.
Initially, the existing fast-charging stations were dismantled due to their unreliability. Instead, the company now relies on Alpitronicâs decentralised HYC1000 charging system, which supplies electric lorries with up to 500 kW at six charging points. A further two charging points on a HYC200 Hypercharger complement the infrastructure, as do eight charging points at existing AC stations.
da emobil ensured the reliable supply of hardware and professional commissioning by an experienced technical team. da emobilâs specialists are trained and certified by the manufacturers for this purpose. Their precise measurements, test charges and reports guarantee the safe and reliable use of the charging infrastructure.
Schwarz Transporte is continuously expanding its in-house electricity generation: the existing systems deliver 360 kWp of PV capacity. A further 130 kWp is planned for early 2027.
Large battery storage systems, as key components of the energy strategy, enable the efficient use of PV electricity. The storage systems absorb surplus PV electricity and, when required, are charged from the grid at favourable rates. A 783 kWh battery storage system is currently in operation, and this will be expanded by 1,000 kWh in the near future. A further 1,000 kWh of storage capacity is planned for 2027.
Schwarz Transporte is consistently pursuing its chosen path of innovation: the next step is to expand the grid connection to 1,600 kW. In the long term, the charging park is also to be opened up to other transport companies, whilst the battery storage systems can be utilised to support the grid on the balancing reserve market.
